Quick Update - Reports/Conferences

Just to avoid confusion, Kakano 7 children will not be bringing a school report home on Friday.  At our conferences next week we will be talking about how your child is settling into school and then setting some goals for term 3.  Please come and see me or email me susieb@stmarysrotorua.school.nz if you have any questions regarding student conferences.

Week One Update

We have had a great start to term 3.  On Monday we welcomed Glenda to Kakano 7 and on Tuesday we welcomed Ellie into our class.  It has been really lovely to see the older children being so helpful, kind, and caring.
Yesterday we had our first Go4It session.  The children did lots of exercise and they were learning about keeping in their own personal space.
Tuesday is our library day and it is so lovely to see the children enjoying the library and choosing new books.  Please keep the books at home for as long as you need to, and the children can either return them when they have finished reading them or bring them back on Tuesday which is our library day.
On Wednesday at lunchtime Kakano children are able to go to the hall to do gymnastics.  Boys are fine in their uniforms and girls just need shorts/bike pants.  They are welcome to go and try it to see if they like it.  I go over and help during the lunchtime.  The children who went today seemed to really enjoy themselves.

Reading Log draw - all reading logs need to be in by Friday at the latest.  If you have lost your reading log it is fine to just write down what your child has read on a piece of paper.

Friday - Children are able to order a sausage or a juicie or both.  The cost is $1.50 each.

Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences - are happening next Tuesday and Wednesday.  Bookings are open and they can be made online.  You need to go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the event code bnp5z.  Please let me know if you are unable to make it to either of these days so we can arrange a time that suits.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Week 1 Term 3 Notices

Hi everyone
We hope that you have had a great break and holiday.

A reminder:
School gates are open from 8:15am. It was so great to have the children independently walking into class and follow the morning routines last term. The teachers are always available to talk with parents and families, but please remember that from 8:30 we are setting up play provocations and supporting the children with their morning activities. We welcome you to come and see us, the teachers, at the end of the day as well.

The end of the day bell rings at 2:45pm for Kakano. The students can either be picked up from class or they can walk to meet you at the desired gate. Please let the classroom teacher know which gate you would like them to meet you at if they are being picked up there.

In week 2 on Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be having the Three-Way Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences. You will be able to book a time online to see the classroom teacher. Information on how to book your interview time will be out shortly. The three-way conferences will be a chance to talk about how your child has settled into school and set goals for Term 3. We look forward to meeting with every family!!

This term we will also be starting Go4It. This is a health and PE programme taken by an instructor with the support of the classroom teacher. Each class will have a Go4It session once a week.

Tuesday - Library Day - don't forget to bring your books back.

Remember to bring your reading logs back by Wednesday this week to ensure you are in the draw for the reading log prizes!!!!! If you have misplaced your reading log it is fine to just write the names of the books you have read on a piece of paper.

Bread Tags - Room 1 (one of the senior classes) are collecting bread tags this term. The bread tags are sold to be recycled and the proceeds go towards buying wheelchairs for those in need.   They would really love it if everyone in the school could collect some bread tags during the term.

Here are some photos of the children who dressed up as wild animals on the last day of term.

Enjoy the last afternoon of your holiday in the sun!

See you all tomorrow

Week 12 Update

Well, the last week of term is going very fast.  Today was very busy with school photos, a puppet show in Room 14, and baking a recipe that involved Weet-bix for a school competition and we also fitted in lots of reading as well.  If you would like to see the photos of the puppet show please look at room 14's blog.  Kate the teacher in this class has added the photos to her blog.  The children went over in groups of 5 and came back thinking the puppet shows were wonderful.  They thought the shows were so funny.
A few things for the last two days of term
Thursday -
Disco, if you are coming you can wear any clothes that you want.  Children just wear their everyday clothes or some choose to get dressed up in a pretty dress, sparkly tops or really it is whatever they choose.
Friday -
Mufti - we are having a mufti day so children can choose to wear whatever they would like.  The theme is wild animals but if your children just want to wear their everyday clothes that is fine too.
Books - I will send some books home with every child for the holidays.  Reading over the holidays is very important to keep their progress going.  Remember reading to your child is important too.
