Week 10 Update

We are having a great last week of term.  A couple of reminders:

Thursday Bake Sale - the senior children are having a bake sale at morning tea so if you would like your child to buy something for morning tea send a gold coin along and I will take them to the bake sale.

Summer Uniforms - the first day of term 4 we will be in summer uniform.  If you need any uniforms the uniform shop is open Wednesday 2:30 - 3:00 and Friday 8:30 - 9:00.  Girl's dresses can only be bought through the uniform shop.

Swimming - next term we will be starting swimming in the school pool.  It would be really helpful if your child is not used to dressing themselves that over the holidays they practice this so they are ready when we start swimming.

Term 3 Week 10 Notices

Welcome to week 10 in Kakano. It is the last week of school for Term 3!  The children are starting to get very tired as the term comes to an end so we have been talking lots about being nice to each other even when we are tired and getting a little grumpy.

This week the older children in the school are auditioning for parts in the school musical Peter Pan. Next term all of Kakano will get to learn a dance as part of the show.

There will be School Sports Photographs on Tuesday for children who have played a winter sport for St Mary's School.  Please remind your children that they need to bring their sports uniforms in a named bag to wear for the photograph only. This is also a good time to return any Winter Sports uniform items to Whaea Leanne, so make sure they are clearly labeled and clean if you wish to do so then.

Tuesday: Go4It and Kakano 7 visit the Library so don't forget your books so you can get new ones for the holidays.

Thursday: St Vincent de Paul Liturgy in the hall and school singing.

Friday: the Mini Marathon. We have a number of children from Kakano 7 running in this.

We welcomed two of our chicks over the weekend and we are excited for the Kakano children to come and see the chicks in the morning.

Reading

 Hi everyone,

As we get towards the end of the term, some of the children are getting very tired.  Please keep home reading a positive experience and if your child is too tired to read just leave it for another time or I was telling the children it is fine for you to read the story with them.  We have new library books today so they might just like to hear you reading to them.

Here are some photos of the last two weeks in Kakano 7.

Term 3 Week 9 Notices

Kia ora - this week is Maori Language Week - Te Reo o te Wiki! I have posted a video on Educa of the children learning a song in Te Reo. I will post another one later in the week.

Reminders for this week:

Tuesday: Go for It  and Library Day - don't forget your library books

Friday: Teacher Only Day: the school will be closed!

We have a lot going on in Kakano at the moment.

We are all busy caring for our little seedlings. You may have heard we are now all a part of the secret club called the Little Garden League.  The mission of our club is to encourage our children to grow and taste different vegetables.

Our eggs are not far away from hatching and the children enjoy going in to see the eggs in the incubator.

Our provocation focus for the remainder of the term is Maths with a specific focus on Position and Orientation.  This will involve children learning to use the language of direction, making maps, and following instructions.  Some of the activities they will have the choice to be involved in are: creating, completing, and building mazes, hiding and finding objects, Beebots (using robots in a maze), map making.

As always we have lots of creativity happening in Kakano, the teachers are always so impressed with the persistence and creativity of our students.  We believe that it is not the final product that is important but the process the child undertakes when designing.  Being able to create, design, and build independently without adult intervention is a valuable skill all children are capable of.  We love seeing how proud the children are when they share their works of art with the teachers.

Notices in Book Bags

Today in your child's book bag there will be school photos if they were ordered, a class placement notice that needs to be filled in by Friday 25th September, and a form if you would like to order your child's art they completed in class.  Our class painted fish and you can order calendars, cards, diaries, mouse mats, and sketch pads.  They make good Christmas presents for grandparents.
